We are a STL County couple who grew up going to Lone Elk Park, had our children grow up with us taking them there and then spent Covid-19 reconnecting with the park and animals in it. We may have actually become a tad obsessed with them...yes, we named them and can tell you who hangs with who and where they do that.
This site and the connecting ones, IG, FB, and YouTube are meant for us to be able to to share the wonder and joy we have found watching these animals and connecting with them over the past two years.
***Disclaimer- we NEVER actually interact with directly, nor do we get closer than the posted 100 feet distance from the animals. If our pictures reflect differently that is because the animals came up to us/our car or we used zoom. These are wild animals and although we "give" them certain character traits we are well aware that that is only in our minds and in no way reflects how these animals will actually behave at any given moment.
Please do us, the animals, and yourselves a favor by following those guidelines too. We really don't want to have to write about you getting gored one day or an animal getting hurt or sick from human interaction, which leads to the second rule-DO NOT FEED them please!!!!!!!!!!!! The only acceptable food for the wild animals in the food they are already getting from the land. Please don't bring food for them, their stomachs can't digest it and while they may seem nice trotting up to your car to get it, there is no reason they couldn't decide you are a giant predator and suddenly ram said car as well. Keep your bread for the geese at other parks- although technically you shouldn't feed them bread either....
If you have any questions or comments feel free to reach out at any time and be on the look out for us in the park!
